Greater London House
Description
This distinctive landmark on Hampstead Road, known locally as “Carreras” or the Black Cat House, underwent extensive restoration and re-modelling.
The works involved:
- The package included the careful take-down of cladding around 12 Art Deco columns, to the main facade and restoration back to their original line and profile.
- 8 GRC Cat Plaque faces were manufactured and installed to span the facade either side of the new “Carreras” sign, including decorative mouldings below the cornice and stairwell blocks.
- A new portico to the central main entrance was designed and built to enhance the decorative elevation of the building.
- The whole facade was then decorated in various colours in the Art Decco style, prominently enhancing the restored columns in red, blue, green and white.
