St Pauls Cathedral, South Portico Steps
Description
Replacement of the existing laminated South Transept steps to provide a regular safe access to the South Side of the Cathedral.
The works involved:
- Removal of the existing Poolvaiish limestone circular steps and the consolidation of the existing Wren sub-structure.
- Replacement of the new steps using Granite to match the North Transept and the West Front. As the original Granite from the island of Jersey was no longer available, the services of the British Geological Survey were used in sourcing the closest match available.
- Installation of new bronze hand rails with intergrated LED lighting to aid night-time ingress and egress.
