Tools for Stress Management

April is Stress Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the causes, effects, and ways to manage stress. This year’s theme is #BeTheChange, encouraging us all to take positive action.

We all feel stress from time to time. In construction, it can build quickly. Stress might show up as:

  • Feeling constantly tired or overwhelmed
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Irritability or frustration
  • Trouble sleeping after a long shift

Construction work is challenging, long hours, tight deadlines, and a high level of responsibility, particularly around safety. Over time, pressure can affect both mental and physical health.

At Stonewest, we believe looking after your mental health is just as important as wearing the right PPE. Some simple ways to manage stress include:

  • Take short breaks to reset when you can
  • Focus on one task at a time
  • Stay hydrated and eat regularly
  • Speak up early if things feel too much
  • Check in with a teammate, it makes a difference

Construction is built on teamwork. Supporting each other, talking openly about stress, and creating a culture where it’s okay to ask for help helps keep everyone safer, healthier, and able to do their best work. We champion and encourage this positive, open approach to mental health. Talking openly about stress helps create a safer, healthier workplace for everyone.

Let’s remember that in our industry, looking out for yourself, your mates, and your colleagues is part of the job.

Stress Awareness Month is organised by the Stress Management Society, which offers helpful resources and support. Learn more here.
