Cleaning & Restoration of Victorian Railway Arches

Stonewest News

The first of 30 Victorian railway arches have been revealed following cleaning and restoration. The project, which forms part of the £300m Borough Yards scheme on London’s Stoney Street, aims to revive the lost medieval street system and enhance the magnificent industrial structures throughout the area. Owned by Network Rail, the arches have been somewhat ‘repurposed’ for a variety of new uses which will include office space, retail and refreshment outlets.

Each brick arch requires careful surveying before and after cleaning ahead of establishing the final scope as new lighting and mezzanine floor level access has to be accounted for. The works include cleaning the faces of all arches and several other notable areas including Wine Wharf, Stoney Street itself and Vinopolis and we anticipate completing the project in Autumn.
