Restoration of Thornton Health Clocktower Unveiled

On 9th October 2023, the newly restored Clocktower in Thornton Health was unveiled; a Grade II listed structure which was vandalised and severely damaged by fire. Executive Mayor of Croydon, Jason Perry, was there to fulfil his promise to the local community to have this historic, local landmark fully repaired.

The Stonewest Special Works team was honoured to take part in this restoration project as Specialist Contractor, appointed by GRAHAM. Our role included careful stone cleaning and repair, creating new timber substrate in our off-site workshop, installing the new timber roof and copper covering, plus finding innovative ways to overcome the damage endured from the extreme heat.

Thanks to all involved for ensuring this important, local project was a success, including GRAHAM, the Principal Contractor, and Gillet & Johnston for restoring the impressive Clock faces of the Clocktower.
