Brookwood 1914-1918 Memorial – a new space for commemoration

Stonewest News

BROOKWOOD MEMORIAL

Our latest Special Works project, the new CWGC 1914-1918 First World War Memorial at Brookwood, is now complete. We were honoured to contribute to the creation of this new, unique space for commemoration.

On behalf of Commonwealth War Graves Commission, our stonemasonry experts prepared the site, procured and prepared the Portland stone, then carefully delivered and installed the 31 steles.

These impressive stones were secured and arranged to mirror the position of the star constellations over Northern Europe at the Armistice of the First World War – engraved with names of service personnel from the UK and Ireland whose graves were never formally found. Within a beautifully landscaped setting that fosters wildlife, visitors can walk through this immersive and peaceful space.
