Project Overview

The London Business School is partly new build and a major “Cut and Carve” of the old iconic Marylebone Town Hall which was built in the early 1900’s and the adjoining annex which was built in the late 1940’s.

The redevelopment of Marylebone Town Hall through the London Business School created seminar rooms, study areas, social space and six lecture theatres and will increase teaching space by 70%. ‘The Sammy Ofer Centre’ in honour of Sammy Ofer KBE, a distinguished shipping magnate and philanthropist provides improved facilities through the sensitive restoration and conversion of this magnificent Grade II building into a modern, state-of-the-art education centre to be enjoyed by the School community.

(Cut & Carve)

• Removal of column stones to expose rusting steelwork (repairs to steelwork by others)
• Whole stone replacement
• Stone indents
• Stone pinning
• Rake out and re-point stone joints
• Clean and re-fix marble wall cladding
• Clean and re-fix marble skirting
• Clean marble columns, floors and stairs using water spray
• Repair damaged marble and stonework
• Cut out and repair existing masonry
• Cut out existing stone sills ready for new
• Cut out existing stone copings ready for new
• Lay new brick and blockwork to match existing
• Lay new Portland stone sills to light-well windows
• Repair cornices where indicated
• Clean main tower using hot wash Doff spray system
• Investigate and repair damage to stonework soffits
• Lay new natural blue limestone floor covering including movement joints
• Cut out large natural stone corners at window openings ready for re-use
• Remove existing corroded fixing studs and repair walls and brickwork
• Remove existing glazed brickwork and replace with new including soldier course heads supported on stainless steel bracketry
• Carving repair and replacement
• Replacement of all stones set aside earlier for re-use

(Redevelopment)

• Elevational surveys to establish likely Schedules of Work.
• Facade cleaning to tower and elevations using the steam Thermatech, Nebulous and Water/Aggregate systems.
• Large scale masonry dismantle and re-building.
• New build design and construction of masonry cladding to link area in Irish Blue limestone and Portland stone. Design and build masonry to re-modelled facade to new teaching block
• Internal masonry cladding, skirting and flooring
• Lime render repairs (plain and decorative) in lime mortars.
• Masonry replacement in Portland stone to match existing historic detailing
• Steel frame corrosion treatment
• Re-pointing in lime mortars
