Project Overview

This was a 7 year Partnering Project with Brighton & Hove City Council using a PPC2000 contract. A rigorous multi-stage interview and selection procedure resulted in Stonewest being appointed to carry out the pre-contract assessment works, categorising the necessary repairs determined from elevation surveys combined with associated costs.

With technical input from Stonewest, each year the scope of repairs was set at an agreed maximum price with the budget distributed to meet the fabric needs.

Works Involved

  • Scaffold provision with hoisting.
  • Survey investigation.
  • Steam cleaning of Bath Stone.
  • Careful cutting out of defective previous mortar repairs. Reinstatement using natural hydraulic lime renders to decorative elements.
  • Indenting with natural stone and hand working original profiles.
  • On site manufacture of Jali Screens, hand carved in temporary workshops.
  • Preparation and redecoration of stucco, windows and metalwork, and repainting in oil based, lead paint.
  • Roof works, including lead & asphalt.
