Project Overview
Opened in 1951, Taukkyan War Cemetery is the largest of the three war cemeteries in Burma (Now Myanmar) for Allied soldiers from the British Commonwealth who died in battle in Burma during the Second World War.
Stonewest (HK) was engaged for this important initiative to revitalize the heritage site, through the careful cleaning and repointing of granite elements plus necessary works to the roof, including structural repairs and the replacement of the waterproofing system.
Key Successes
- Cleaning of the granite facades using the specialist Thermatech Steam Cleaning system.
- Repointing and repair of missing features using hydraulic lime to match the original material.
- Removal of existing roof coverings and replacement, including application of new Sika waterproofing membrane.
- Installation of new lead detail to inner edges to reduce water runoff to internal features.
- Formation of new expansion joint details.
- Repairs to the concrete slab including, pressure grouting and patch repair.
