Project Overview

Restoration to both red and glazed brickwork and stonework to various facade elevations of the building.  Conservation cleaning to both brick and stone using specialist cleaning techniques for removing organic growth and soften sulphation using controlled pressure water cleaning equipment.

Creating new door and window openings including replicating voussior arches in traditional form.  Construction of new brick walls, duplication original brick cant features and stone copings and cill mouldings from existing detail.

Key Successes

  • Conservation cleaning to external facades and courtyard
  • Controlled pressure water cleaning to stone details in various areas
  • Carefully dismantle stonework and brickwork to create new doorways and window openings
  • Carefully cut out defective areas of brickwork using hand-held breakers and hand tools (salvaged approximately 10% for reuse)
  • Installation of new lintels above all new openings
  • Reinstate brickwork like for like and re-point
  • Build new walls using handmade and special bricks
  • Build new arches using red bricks and glazed bricks to match existing
  • Build new walls and fix coping stones to match existing profiles
  • Take down and re-fix Portland ridge stones to pitched roof
  • Conservation of 24 historical fireplaces
