Project Overview

Regents Crescent is London’s only Grade I* listed building that has been completely redeveloped.  In collaboration with Westminster City Council, The Crown Estate and Historic England, Stonewest were entrusted to restore the Crescent to its former glory, complete with 200m long iconic stucco render façade.

The key element of any historic building is its façade.  Stonewest achieved a thoroughly faithful recreation of the classical architecture yet embraced traditional techniques and modern innovations.   The result is one of London’s most historically fascinating new developments and has set the benchmark for the luxury residential homes market.

Key Successes

  • Traditional lime stucco render works to the curved new brickwork façade including rustications, molded cornices and pediments.
  • Developed samples of suitable lime renders for the above works in conjunction with the conservation team and material suppliers.
  • Design and installation of 50 No pre-cast concrete porticos to match historic elements salvaged from the original building.
  • Columns and bases were designed to incorporate a cushioning system to prevent vibrations spreading from London Underground’s Bakerloo line.
  • Decoration and waxing to all new renders and pre-cast works to replicate finish of the remaining crescent.
