Case Study
Client: Charterhouse School
Architect: Purcell
Quantity Surveyor: NT Surveying
Structural Engineer: Cambridge Architectural Research
Specialist Contractor: Stonewest
As Principal Contractor, Stonewest was appointed by Charterhouse School to restore its iconic Chapel. Designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the Grade II* listed Chapel stands as the UK’s largest war memorial.
In collaboration with Purcell, our scope included delicate cleaning and masonry repairs to the Bargate stone plus a major scheme of lime mortar repointing work.
External scaffolding was assembled with protections for the fabric, alongside internal scaffolding for maintenance of the Chapel Organ.
Additionally, we addressed repairs to leadwork, tiles, windows, and the flat roofs and gutters.
We took pride in preserving this historic chapel for future generations of students, educators, and visitors.
